Return to School September 2020

Posted on: 27 Aug 2020

This academic year we will start with the theme of ‘Hope’. Having hope in such uncertain times is key, and through a range of academic, creative and physical activities children will be able to express their hopes and desires for the world; whilst celebrating and being reminded of how special they are and the power they have to make our world an even better place. If you haven’t already, please take the time to speak with your child about their return to school and their hopes for the school year.

Below we have provided you with as much detail as possible about arrangements for the autumn term.

COVID-19 Risk Assessment

We have reviewed and adapted our extensive COVID-19 Risk Assessment to make sure that we are doing everything to keep everyone as safe as possible, in line with the latest guidance from the government, Department for Education and Public Health England.

The Risk Assessment continues to be a live document and will be reviewed weekly and updated as necessary.

School Day

The beginning and the end of the school day are the busiest time for children and adults congregating in one place. To maintain social distancing we will be staggering start and finish times and increasing the amount of school entry and exit points. Please see table below with information on start times and where your child will need to enter and exit from. School staff will be visible at the beginning and end of the school day to direct should you need further guidance.

Face Coverings/PPE

Following the revised guidance from the Government in August and Public Health England advice is that younger children are not expected to wear face coverings in school. Face coverings should be removed safely and stored appropriately e.g. inside a sealed plastic bag, before entering the school site.

Staff responsible for First Aid have had training in the safe use of PPE where it is required. There is no expectation that PPE is used routinely in school.

Lunchtimes

We are pleased that from September, we will be able to offer the children hot meals however options will be limited to a meat or vegetarian option.

  • On Mosytn site, children will be seated in their bubbles and then served lunch on a prepared tray (airline style) that will be easy to access and clear.

  • On the Hackford site, children will be seated in their class bubbles and provided with sanitised and wrapped cutlery, plates and cups.  They will then be provided with casserole style containers and we will be implementing a ‘family dining’ experience - where the children will serve one another, under the supervision of staff.

Children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 will all be offered a free school meal each day.  School meals will be charged at £10.00 per week and should be paid as usual via your Scopay Account.

Children and families may still choose to send their children with a packed lunch.  As before, we would expect this to be a ‘healthy packed lunch’.

After each class has eaten, all surfaces will be sanitised and thoroughly cleaned before another year group bubble enters the lunch hall to eat.

Uniform

All children will be expected to wear their full uniform to and from school. The correct uniform includes:

Nursery to Year 2

Year 3 - 6

Plain white polo shirt

School sweatshirt (Nursery)

School jumper (Rec-year 2)

Mid-grey trousers/skirt/pinafore or shorts

Classic school style plain black shoes

School blazer

Plain white shirt

School tie

Plain grey jumper

Mid-grey trousers/skirt/pinafore or shorts

Classic school style plain black shoes

Children will be able to change into PE kit as usual.  A reminder that PE kit includes a school tee-shirt (yellow) and black or navy shorts/tracksuit bottoms.

Swimming has been cancelled at this stage.  This will be kept under review going through the school year.

Water Bottles

As all drinking fountains are out of use, all children must bring a clearly labelled water bottle to school which they can use throughout the school day. Water bottles can be refilled using the dedicated taps.

Class stationary

All children from Year 1 will be required to bring their own pencil case which they can then leave in school. The school will provide every child with all required stationary needed.

Road closures

The ‘School Streets’ team have introduced a limited road access on Cowley Road and Hackford Road for vehicles.  This means you will not be able to drive down either Cowley or Hackford Road between 8.15am - 9:15am and then again 2.45 - 3:45pm. This is to promote more families to walk, cycle and scoot to school whilst aiding social distancing for families - making the journey to school safer for children.

If you require any further information, please do not hesitate to contact the school. We want to ensure all families feel confident about their childs’ return to school.
