At Van Gogh Primary School we want our children to leave the Early Years Foundation Stage as happy, motivated and resilient learners who are ready for the next steps of their learning journey in Key Stage One.
We have high expectations for all our children and know their progress is linked to their emotional wellbeing; a child who is happy and settled at school will make the best progress with their learning.
EYFS – Our Approach
Our approach is underpinned by providing the children with developmentally appropriate opportunities for learning. This is reflected in the structure of the day, the ratio of adult-directed to child directed learning and, very importantly, considers the needs of the children as the year progresses and as they move between Nursery and Reception and Reception to Year One.
We plan our Early Years curriculum using the ‘Early Years Outcomes’ and ‘Development Matters’ documents.
The Early Years Curriculum has three different themes which underpin learning and development:
- The Unique Child
- Enabling Environments
- Positive Relationships
